Halloween in San Francisco is not an affair to be taken lightly. Sure, you can go to a bar or a house party, or find the occasional flash mob, but if you’re a longtime resident of the city, you knew that it used to be all about Halloween in the Castro. Yeah, well, that was discontinued following an unfortunate shooting incident in 2006.
The new San Francisco staple is Ghost Ship at Pier 70, which, surprisingly, is at the same venue as that for TechCrunch Disrupt. It’s the place to be for creatives and the Burning Man crowd, and for finding love in the chaos.
Ghost Ship is now in its eighth year! And if you’re not into desert escapades, this is also the place to chill among amazing art installations from Burning Man and to chat with the artists.
Top Themes for Halloween in San Francisco This Year:
Making Elmo and other characters sexy for no reason
The “I just came from the Folsom Street Fair” look
The costume from your favorite TV show that you don’t recognize without an explanation. (So I know you got it, but that’s the Shame Nun from Game of Thrones with Cersei Lannister in the nude!)
The amazing homemade costumes that you wish you made but will never make because you’re too goddamn lazy. Maybe you’ll try for Comic-Con next year? No, no you won’t.
The “real” San Francisco costume. That’s Tippi Hedren from Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds! Shame-nun on you for not getting it! Shame, shame.
Your scary aunt Pearl from Alamo Square who is actually a method actress pretending to be dead
The no-costume look. We are in San Francisco, after all.
The “I didn’t wear a costume but that shouldn’t stop me from drinking and hooking up” look
The “Am I late for TechCrunch Disrupt?” look
And finally, Hula-Hoop girl! Hula-Hoop girl rocks and is always in a great mood. There are always a few at every San Francisco event.
See you ghouls next year!
