This city can get you down. Rents are skyrocketing, neighborhoods are changing, people will soon be puking green beer all over our streets. It’s easy to get bogged down in the bad some days. But here’s the thing, we’re really lucky to live here. This city, like anything or anyone we love, is not without flaws. It’s important to take time today to realize that. Here is a list of things that make us feel #blessed on the daily. So you have to ask yourself, do you feel lucky? Well do ya, punk?
When you’re running for a BART train only to realize that the doors are stuck open so you can saunter on instead.
Rent controlled apartments you got into way before the prices got crazy
Bars that let you run in and use their bathroom so you can avoid peeing on the street.
A secluded spot to pee on the street in emergencies without getting arrested.
That one friend who doesn’t mind driving you to the Colma In N Out so you don’t have to schlep to Fisherman’s Wharf.
Craigslist ads that aren’t scams.
When you realize you can crush someone with the calves you earned walking up hills.
Realizing that you have enough costume odds and ends to construct a last minute look for your friend’s impromptu themed party.
You can get almost any food from any culture delivered to your door at any time.
Realizing you have just enough cash in your pocket to spring for a super burrito.
You don’t have to deal with LA traffic or crazy temperatures.
Beach days when it’s actually warm.
Foggy days when you’re feeling broody and pensive.
Roommates who work in the food industry who are generous with their take home snacks.
Beach days when it’s cold but you brought hot chocolate and blankies.
You can prance around in February without being beleaguered by snow.
When you find a spot in Dolores park that enables you maximum dog/baby watching and minimal pot smoke or BO smell proximity.
Exes who never go the same places you do.
Friends who would drop everything to go to a rooftop party with you but who would also support your decision to watch Netflix and eat ice cream.
A city with more bikes than cars.
Your new shoes making it through their first days on the city streets without getting too dirty.
Big parades and parties that happen… in neighborhoods far away from yours.
A house conveniently located next to a 91 Owl stop.
That one friend who insists you bring a sweater when you go out at night.
Being able to say things like “so I was at this sex dungeon party” in casual conversation.
A city that is still weird despite what everyone says.
Having excellent ping pong skills can be considered an asset in the job market.
Being able to smoke pot openly on the street or have it delivered to your door.
When your favorite breakfast spot (or Mickey D’s) opens just as you wake up hungover.
All the bands you like make stops here.
No matter how crazy you dress you’ll never be the weirdest looking person.
What makes you feel lucky? Tell us in the comments!
