An Encounter with My Comic Book Hero

I couldn’t fucking believe it. My favorite cartoonist, Ron Crowes, was going to be in town to promote his new book, Crippling Void, which follows the lives and times of the Three Stooges. It was supposed to be his most existential and depressing book yet!

If you were a cartoonist in San Francisco, you simply had to go to his book signing.

Unfortunately for me, I got out of work just as the signing was starting. I hustled my buns over there as fast I could—which was hard because I work at a pool.

I was already 20 minutes late by the time I left work, but lucky for me, I had brought my cool-guy skateboard with me that day. I hopped on my plank like a coolio and made my exit.

When I arrived at the bookstore, it was crammed with Ron Crowes groupies and shut-in cartoonists types like myself.

I sat on my skateboard way in the back and drank all the free beer I could. Slowly, it became obvious that Mr. Crowes was fucking wasted. He went on at great length about how superhero comics are bullshit.

After the signing, I saw him get kicked out of an Irish bar and drive off in a huge SUV blasting gangsta rap. Amazing.
