After an explosion of restaurant openings in the Mission and Tenderloin this year, we finally get to send you to some different neighborhoods this month. And the East Bay! Ready, set, eat!
Dragon Beaux
If you’re a fan of waiting in line for the awesome dim sum at Koi Palace in Daly City, you’ll be a fan of waiting in line for the equally awesome dim sum at their new Richmond District restaurant Dragon Beaux, which took over the former Video Cafe space and transformed it into something beautiful. I went Sunday (March 1) on its third day of operation, got in line at 10 a.m., and waited about 15 minutes. Lines were much more significant by noon. While the menu isn’t as extensive as what Koi Palace has — no live seafood tanks, for example — there are plenty of standard and unusual dumplings during the day and hot pot service at night.
Sababa
Eater reports that the owners of AQ and TBD are plotting Sababa, a falafel joint. As they search for a permanent downtown location, you can try it from 6–9 p.m. Monday nights in March at Deli Board.
Fish & Game
Tablehopper notes a pop-up series en route this week from New York chef Zak Pelaccio and Kevin Pomplun of Fish & Game, who will make a five-course meal at Belcampo Meat Co. on March 5–6 ($120, with a wine pairing option for $40). Pelaccio is also behind the popular restaurant Fatty Crab.
Space Burger
Inside Scoop SF reported last week’s opening of Space Burger in the former Giant Burger walkup in Uptown Oakland. It isn’t open 24 hours a day like Giant Burger was, but the new owners haven’t appeared to tinker much with the menu (it’s still a lot of burgers and sandwiches). It’s only expected to be around for 18 months; the property will be torn down to build new housing after that.
PieTisserie
And you need a lil something for dessert, right? Jaynelle St. Jean has moved her PieTisserie from a window at Nido in Oakland to her own space in the Grand Lake District, according to Berkeleyside. If you haven’t tried her pies, they’re as adorable as they are delicious. She offers a monthly selection of rotating flavors like mojito custard, chocolate cream pretzel, and Okinawan sweet potato.
