A film about the SF Giants, the triumphant return of a gay leather bar, mustachioed cars, taking rides from strangers — all things we’re gabbing about around the office this week.
The Eagle has a new lease on life! The legendary gay bar (which was shut down a year ago) will be roaring back into the picture in a couple of months after making a few repairs. We’re with SFist on this one — bring back the troughs, beards, and Bud Lights! (SFist)
A blog post by The Posthypsleeper has been making its way around our office. It proposes a movie be made based on the “team forged under pressure” — the SF Giants. Even more entertaining than the dialogue is the casting call — John C. Reilly as Matt Cain? CM Punk as Brian Wilson? Jon Heder as Buster Posey? Nailed it. (The Posthypsleeper)
Attention, Armory fans — Kink.com will be opening a bar called The Armory Club. After booting the Ace Cafe a year ago by hiking up their rent, it seems they’ve done some work on the place. The plywood came down recently to reveal a slate exterior and dark interior. No word yet on whether the whips and chains are going to make an appearance. (Uptown Almanac)
You may be wondering — what the hell is up with all of the pink mustaches on cars around town? We assure you it has nothing to do with Burning Man. They’re ride shares for a start-up called Lyft. When you download the app it allows you to take rides from (background checked) strangers in their mustachioed cars. Just be prepared to fist bump your driver in greeting. (Uptown Almanac)
The historical North Beach comedy venue, The Purple Onion, will be closing its doors. No drama to this closure — the owners simply sold it. North Beach residents are saddened by the news, especially in light of another neighborhood favorite facing possible eviction — Tosca. Beats be bumming’ right about now.
