Beer plus arcade games equals Brewcade, opening on Market Street near the Castro on December 10. The space, which will hold around 100 people, will be taking it back to the old school with 50 vintage games including Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Tetris. Brewcade is coming to you from the folks behind Blackbird.
Alcohol-wise, there will be five wines on draft and 25 beers on tap from a rotating list that includes Anchor Steam, Duvel, and Racer 5. Local shop The Fizzary has created a list of cool and unusual regional sodas like Dad’s Blue Cream, Lollie’s Cherry Pop, and Maine Root Mexi-Cane Cola. While there won’t be a full-on food component, a “munchie bar” will help soak everything up.
This could be the early stages of a trend alert — a similar concept called EightyTwo has thrived in LA since opening earlier this year and the folks behind Butter will be opening up a barcade called BuzzWorks in SoMa next year. BuzzWorks owner Vlad Cood told Eater earlier this year that his place will seat 200 and will be like a “man cave on steroids.” And then of course Upper Haight has Free Gold Watch, which isn’t a bar, but has become quite a popular underground arcade. FGW finally got its official arcade permits and according to Hoodline is having a party on Dec. 10 that involves hot dogs and pinball games.
