Holiday Manicures Taken Way Too Far — The Bold Italic — San Francisco

It’s that time of year when everyone and their mother (literally) is flaunting their holiday manicures. My Instagram feed is so filled with sparkly Santas and snowflake French tips, it makes me yearn for the days of #foodporn. Now don’t get me wrong. I’m no hater, and I’ve got mad respect for those steady-handed individuals who embark on a four-hour, multitooled procedure to create a glittery finger masterpiece.

But let’s be real here. Most of those manicures are still just nail polish, dotted around in a festive way. If you really want to stand out, you’ve got to push it to another level. Think outside that nail-polish bottle! Go straight to the source, get sculptural, and free your mind nails.

Below, I give you six holiday looks that will really impress your friends, your coworkers, and Muni drivers. Sure, it will make everyday tasks like going to the bathroom or making coffee next to impossible, but who cares when your nails look this good.

Tree Tips

Add some sap to your snap! For this elegant and affordable look, I simply glued needles from my tree straight to the nail. Don’t worry about them lining up at the top; the frayed look is really in right now. For the full Christmas-tree effect, leave them on and let them wither through mid-January.

Eye-Five

These nails are perfect for family gatherings, uncomfortable work events, or anytime someone starts talking about the “War on Christmas.” They allow you to effortlessly (and subtly) roll your eyes without having to strain your eye muscles.

Mani-schewitz

Much like shellac, these menorah nails will last eight days. While they may throw off your dreidel-spinning game, you’ll be the centerpiece at the latke party. Also, bonus! They’re great for a first date, especially if the person’s a smoker.

Snow man-i

This is a fun, everyday look that kids will love. Unlike a real snowman, these nails will not melt; however, you might want to spritz the carrot noses with water to keep them firm.

Feliz Nail-vidad

Everyone loves Christmas lights, so hang out by an outlet and let the party come to your nails. Note: if you have any personal days left, take them now, ’cause this look makes it nearly impossible to type or really do anything at all.

Wrapper’s Delight

This is a great style for when you have bad hangnails or insane cuticles. Simple wrap your nails up with scraps of gift wrap and bows. Everyone will be wondering what’s tied up in those darling little packages. Surprise! It’s my dirty nails.
