How Would You Describe the Bay Area in 1 Word? — The Bold Italic — San Francisco

The San Francisco Foundation has been launching bold ideas since 1948 and is responsible for seeding some of the most beloved institutions in the Bay Area, including KQED, SF Bicycle Coalition, and the Exploratorium, just to name a few. You could say it has a serious love affair with the Bay Area, and on September 4th the SFF shared that love with a NightLife event at the California Academy of Sciences.

The Bold Italic produced a video asking NightLife visitors to describe the Bay Area in one word. The results were pretty diverse!

Surrounded by the animals in the African Hall, guests gathered to hear “Bay Area Love Stories,” presented by Porchlight. Storytellers included notable and buzzworthy Bay Area locals, such as poet and playwright Chinaka Hodge, writers Hiya Swanhuyser and Dana Merwin, musician Thao Nguyen, Hemlock Tavern booker Anthony Bedard, and sketch comedian John Reichmuth. Music was performed by Carletta Sue Kay.

As guests enjoyed Bay Area-themed craft cocktails, the awesome DJs from Motown Mondays kept everyone happy and dancing with their retro-inspired hits.

The Bold Italic was on site with Uncle Jesse, our human-powered treat machine. We created a custom quiz to test guest’s local knowledge. Prizes included t-shirts, BOLD Tattly temporary tattoos, tickets to local events, and delicious chocolates from Poco Dolce!

Our friends from San Franpsycho were there doing live screen printing demonstrations with the event’s bold signature tee shirt.

The folks at SmileBooth had one of their amazing photo GIF booths on-site where guests could show off their Bay Area pride.

There was a steady line all night for the Poetry Store’s table, where poet Silvi Alcivar wrote original, custom love poems for guests. Nearby, The Bold Italic created wacky Bay Area-themed Mad Libs.

It was a terrific night celebrating some of the people and institutions that make the region #BayAreaBold. Check out our video re-cap of the event to hear locals speak about what they love most about this place we call home.
