Artist and San Francisco native Andres Amador will create a sand sculpture (and accompanying film) this Saturday, January 31, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Stinson Beach. Amador is well known for his expansive and mesmerizing sand murals made with rakes, several hundred of which he’s created since 2004. He’s currently partnering with a nonprofit organization that fights slavery, Walk Free, to produce a film clip of himself working on location.

Saturday’s event offers fans of Amador’s work (or just fans of the beach) a rare opportunity to view a temporary art installation being created, as well as a chance to participate in the filming. According to Funcheap, Amador is “seeking a diverse cast to represent the people of the world.”

The artist says he plans to create a large scale piece that volunteers will interact with and walk through as a way to represent people’s paths to freedom. Interested volunteers can email walkfree@analogia.org with the subject “walk free” for more information. Anyone is welcome to watch the filming.

If you can’t make it this weekend but are interested in Amador’s art, you can buy prints of his work or commission pieces via his website.
