The Bold Italic is all about capturing bits of essential San Francisco and turning them into art, so we’re excited to offer you a new poster, “The Smut History of San Francisco” [sold out]. This limited-edition, silkscreened poster is based on the recent “Smut Encyclopedia of San Francisco” backstory by Michael Stabile. Michael is the director of the documentary-in-progress, Smut Capital of America , about our city’s rise as a pro-porn power player in the nation’s battle against the sexually explicit. The design was done by the super-talented Jayde Cardinalli , who also illustrated The Royal Family poster.
Smut History was printed locally, at Team Print Shop , an independently-owned business in Oakland. (One of Team Print Shop’s owners, Loren Purcell, just started designing for the Bold Italic ; we like to support artists while we make something creative of our own).
While supplies last, you can grab a little Smut History from The Shop , the online store we’ve curated featuring posters of iconic San Francisco characters (Brian Wilson, bears, eccentrics), as well as items crafted by local makers.
