Pride felt a little different this year. This was only our second trip down Market Street since the COVID outbreak, and tension surrounding LGBTQ+ rights has felt at critical mass, from drag bans to decreasing corporate sponsorship, to ongoing attacks on trans rights. It all made our annual parade — described by some as perhaps too party-like — take on a little more meaning.
Everyone still brought their smiles. Fierce looks strutted on sidewalks and asphalt, while many others danced from convertibles, floats, and streetcars. SF weather was its typical fickle maiden, giving us both sprinkles in the morning and sunshine as the afternoon wore on.
