As 2021 comes to an end, most of us are saying “damn, this year flew by” when compared to 2020’s latticework of hoopla, political unrest, and the start of a global pandemic… that would change life as we know it.
Things are looking up (sort of, kind of). 2021 saw the rollout of mass vaccination programs, permanent Slow Street corridors, former President Tr*mp’s Twitter account becoming suspended, and a somewhat return to familiar ways of living.
There’s, however, still a fuck-ton that needs fixing — for example: The climate crisis could high-key leave California in a pile of burnt timber, a sentiment only bonded further after the Dixie Fire became the state’s largest single-source wildfires this summer — but there’s still so much to be grateful for in 2021. And chiefly among those thankful reasons are the local businesses, organizations, and human beings that helped us pull out of 2020’s detritus over the past twelve months.

That brings us to our main point: Even though the state of the world is still very “I need fifteen minutes outside by myself with a blunt,” there’s been a ton that deserves to be celebrated. San Francisco’s hustle and creativity and general vivaciousness continue to be on full display; the same, too, can be said for Oakland and elsewhere in the Bay Area; those responsible for making the Bay Area a truly wonderful and wild place to live warrant a digital round of applause.
To do that, we need your help. We are seeking nominations for many categories for The Bold Italic’s 2021 awards, which range from “Most Creative Outdoor Dining Experience” to “Best Corner Bodega.”
Please fill out this Google Form below to submit your nominations. Any information you can give on why you are nominating a certain person or business is helpful — and make sure to share with others!
The deadline to nominate any one person, business, or organization is Tuesday, December 14th.
