Yesterday’s B&W photo essay by Travis Jensen and Brad Evans inspired me to look for other interesting photographic explorations of San Francisco. I came upon “Too Good to be True: Streetwalkers of San Francisco,” a video documentary featuring mugshots of the city’s prostitutes from the 1940s. Some of these women look like they could be mousy school librarians, while others are unapologetically vampy vixens. Unfortunately, many of these mugshots show evidence of the hard lives these women lived. It’s an interesting, short peek into San Francisco’s untold history.
