FRIDAY FIVE

Introducing TBI’s “5 Best” feature, in which we bring you our brilliant expertise on and suggestions for a particular area. This week, it’s all about where to keep the party going after Outside Lands.
At last, Outside Lands has finally arrived this summer. Grab your flannels and beanies, because it’s time to head to Golden Gate Park this weekend. If you’re a newbie to the magical weekend that is Outside Lands , there is something very important for you to know: it does not begin when you enter the park, nor does it end when you leave. The festival is a weekend-long affair, which is why it’s important to know where to head after the last act each night. Plus, you’ll need somewhere to pass time to wait out the crowds before you head home—and we all know that in Fogust that place will not be somewhere outside.
1. Little Shamrock (Inner Sunset)
Is this Dublin? No, it’s the Inner Sunset. Tucked away on the corner of 9th Avenue and Lincoln Way, a little slice of Ireland can be found. When it’s not the weekend of Outside Lands, this bar is regularly frequented by locals in the Sunset (Yelp reviews often tout the lack of tourists in this watering hole). Little Shamrock is also San Francisco’s second-oldest bar. It survived the 1906 earthquake and has an antique clock hanging on its wall with an inscription that reads, “No tick since April 18, 1906.”
TBI tip: Try to get a seat next to the fireplace.
2. Mucky Duck (Inner Sunset)
If Little Shamrock is too crowded, Mucky Duck is your next-best bet. While it holds more of a sports-bar vibe, it’s similar to Little Shamrock because it’s another Irish pub in the Sunset (on 9th Avenue and Irving Street, to be exact). According to Yelp, “Brett pours a mean Jack and Ginger.” There is a pool table and a jukebox too.
TBI tip: If you ask nicely, the bartenders will let you order in pizza.
3. InnerFog (Inner Sunset)
Calling all wine snobs—if your nightcap is a glass of vino, look no further than InnerFog. This is very different from the aforementioned watering holes, and it’s definitely the best option for those who post only up at Wine Lands during the festival. InnerFog is located on 7th Avenue and Irving Street in the Inner Sunset and is known for its diverse wine selection. It also has excellent food pairings.
TBI tip: Order the cheese-and-charcuterie plate.
4. Durty Nelly’s (Outer Sunset)
If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to keep the music going after Outside Lands and catch a late-night show on Saturday. Yes, the Sunset’s beloved Durty Nelly’s has live music on Saturday nights. At 24th and Irving, it’s a favorite neighborhood spot that will likely be full of locals all weekend long but will still make for a great post-OSL spot. It also serves delicious bar food that’s highly recommended on Yelp.
TBI tip: Order the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup.
5. Trad’r Sam (Richmond)
Finally, for those who are really looking to turn it up after OSL, Trad’r Sam is the place to be. On any given weekend, this place draws a unique crowd—young and old—trying to relive their favorite tropical pastimes. Located on the Richmond side of the park, Trad’r Sam is on 26th Avenue and Geary Street.
TBI tip: Try the King Louie, a drink made out of ice cream.
