If you’re thinking that these posters have a retro charm, you’re right! Chavez told BART that he “wanted to harken back to 50s advertising art and the work of [Miroslav] Sasek, the artist who did the ‘This is San Francisco’ children’s book. Almost a throw back poster to what BART would have had in the 50s if it was around back then.”

The Mission artist also exlplained that he rode BART from end to end for inspiration for this art. He views public transportation as “magical,” which is a refreshing take compared to the complaining that can otherwise be associated with getting around the Bay Area. You can see Chavez’s illustrations in various stations now and you should follow him on Instagram, it will improve your life.
