Living in San Francisco these days means having to constantly say goodbye to people. Whether they want to go — or just can’t afford the place anymore — you can now remind them of the city by sending a box full of goodies via a new service called “The San Francisco Box.”
The box is meant to contain distinctly San Francisco products that’ll trigger nostalgia in whoever gets it. “We view the box as a great gift for people who have left the area, or as a homesickness cure for themselves,” said Vieje, one of the founders. You can purchase the box for $35 (with free shipping), send either five or ten items, and include a personal message. The company promises to ship within 72 hours and will even “throw in a couple extra goodies.” The items you can choose from include De La Paz coffee, Golden Gate Fortune Cookies, Boudin Sourdough, See’s Candy, a “Keep Tahoe Blue” sticker, a Giants World Series decal, and other similar products. If none of these treats appeals to you, the founders are open to suggestions — they just want their “boxes [to] provide an authentic experience.”
“As we go forward, we hope to get a few more local staples in our box like Philz Coffee, It’s-Its, and others. We’re also in talks with some of our favorite local bars/restaurants with hopes of getting some of their gear in our boxes,” said Vieje.

Although two San Francisco natives run the company, I think they could use a transplant’s perspective on what would make the box even more authentic. For example:
- A single turd beautifully tucked into a flour tortilla.
- Empty Tecate cans collected from the grass in Dolores Park.
- A Mission hot dog bought at 2 a.m.
- One of those CDs from Bootie to remind people of their terrible (but great) drunk choices.
- A used BART transfer card with 25 cents on it.
- A stencil that reads “Tech=Death.”
- A Lyft pink mustache that you used to use but is so 2014 now.
- An Instacart tote bag — but only if they send you a plastic one in return.
- A Pliny the Younger beer and a coconut rum from the Rum Guy in Dolores Park.
