The Bold Italic is an ongoing conversation about life in the Bay Area, from the serious to the ridiculously silly. Our stories come mostly from (paid) freelancers so we can continually expand upon the voices and experiences included on the site. If you’re interested in adding to our conversation with a personal essay, humor or opinion piece, made-up chart or infographic, news story, or different sort of reflection on life in Oakland, we want to hear from you.
We’re currently looking for Oakland writers and illustrators whose work shows a strong personal voice/style and who have solid story ideas to add to our freelance pool.
