There’s been a bit of a rough patch lately for those living in San Francisco. Between gentrification, rising rent costs and the country’s current state of politics, life can feel hard on some (if not most) days. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t have fun once in a while—like the San Francisco Police Department has shown us. Their jobs are undoubtedly hard, yet they’ve recently been able to find time to let loose a little—and it’s time for the rest of us to follow suit.
SFPD Partakes in “Lip Synch” Video Challenge
Who needs karaoke when you have YouTube, a video recorder and San Francisco as your backdrop? The SFPD has followed the national trend of police officers stepping up their game for a classic lip-synch challenge. In an attempt to one-up the “Bohemian Rhapsody” parody done by the California Highway Patrol’s San Francisco division, the SFPD produced a three-and-a-half-minute video with four songs. The music video begins near AT&T Park, where the officers sing the Journey classic “Lights.” Not too long after, they sing Pharrell’s “Happy” at Happy Donuts—with donuts in hand. You can watch what happens next at SF Gate.
Richard Branson’s SF Hotel Is Now Accepting Reservations
If you liked flying Virgin America (didn’t we all?), chances are you will enjoy staying at Branson’s latest undertaking—a hotel. According to Travel + Leisure, Virgin Hotel San Francisco is now taking reservations. We are very curious. The hotel is located in SOMA close to the Yerba Buena Gardens and has 192 “chambers.” According to the report, its interior will resemble that of its sister Chicago hotel. What makes SF’s location unique is that it features the Commons Club, a work and play space.
Non-Residents Allowed to Vote in SF Elections in November
This is exciting! While it’s not news featuring a new emerging neighborhood, it does depict San Francisco’s strong support of the local community. According to CNN, “City residents who are of legal voting age, not in prison or on parole for a felony conviction, and [who] are parents, legal guardians or legally recognized caregivers of children under the age of 19 living in San Francisco, can register to vote in school-board elections — regardless of legal immigration status.” Supporters in San Francisco celebrated on Monday at City Hall.
