Transportation is so fundamental to everyday life that it’s unsurprising that people get worked up about it. When you’re driving or walking or biking, and you get into an accident, there’s no one to blame but yourself. But when shit goes wrong on public transit, there’s a whole slew of other people and things to blame.
Even though Muni is generally pretty chill (and has the best, retro-est logo), sometimes things go bad and people get mad.Angry public-transit riders fall into two categories: people who are angry about things that are genuinely Muni’s fault, and people who are just vocal and in a bad mood.
In any case, we thought that collecting some publicly vented public-transit anger might make for an interesting look into the regional zeitgeist. Here are our curated observations with added color commentary.
So without further ado: What are we mad at Muni for?
1. This cryptic sign.
Looks like you’re gonna have to take the L this time. 😉
2. This guy who brought his fancy satchel on the light rail.
OK, I know that backpacks on public transit are a thing some people hate, but we found this quite handsome. And also convenient if you want to play a quick game of chess or checkers.
3. That our puritanism has waned.
Harumph! A temptress exposing her bare feet on the carriage? I’m mad as hops!
4. Being late

5. For raising fares.
Can’t argue with that.
6. A lot of things, frankly.

Hate when that happens.
