When San Franciscans want the “beach experience,” we don’t just hit the sand. We go to sunbathing hotspots like Dolores Park — there’s a reason why we’ve nicknamed a section of grass “Gay Beach” — or swimming holes like Lake Del Valle and Lake Berryessa. Our beaches are generally too darn cold, foggy, and windy to allow for much typical oceanside fun, except during those glorious hot streaks that randomly arrive without warning. Nonetheless, our coastline is among the most beautiful in the country, offering access to the world-class urban parks, popular surf spots, the Golden Gate Bridge, and stunning views of the Marin Headlands. So do yourself a favor and get educated about our awesome beaches.
