Help Us Find the Unsung Women of the Bay Area

The Bay Area is home to some of the world’s most formidable women. We say that with no exaggeration or drama; it is simply the truth. We at The Bold Italic want to celebrate those who usually go uncelebrated here: the ones out there doing the grind, trying to make our community better. And we’re looking for your help to find them.

While it’s usually CEOs and tech entrepreneurs who get the spotlight in this town, we want to take a moment to highlight the women—and by that we mean anyone identifying as female — who are out there actively and tirelessly dedicating themselves to helping solve our area’s problems but rarely get the recognition they deserve. That doesn’t mean they can’t be in tech—but they can also work in health, the arts, policy, public service, business, or any other sector. Our only qualification is that they care about the Bay Area and are working to make it better, whether that’s their day job, side hustle, or the way they volunteer their time.

As we enter 2020, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the issues plaguing our home: homelessness, extreme inequality, climate change, congestion, and the list goes on. But there are people here who—despite all of this—stick it out and put the effort in to make this place better tomorrow. We look forward to learning about the women doing this, and to sharing their stories.

To nominate someone you know, please tell us about her/them in this nomination form by January 31.
