Let The Bold Italic Set You Up on a Date IRL

Are you interested in dating our next bachelor or bachelorette? In this debut season of The Bold Italic’s dating series, The Sync Up, our editorial team will match two (potentially, but maybe not) compatible souls, sending them out into the Bay Area for a non-lame, adventurous blind date. Afterward, we’ll write about the rendezvous in what’s sure to be the most dramatic content you’ve ever read on the internet.

Will our participants be taking part in The Sync Up for the right reasons? Or just for the fame that comes along with being featured in the Bay Area’s favorite online magazine? Only time will tell.

So without further ado, here’s how it’s all going to play out. I’m basically Chris Harrison, and this is going to be huge.

Our (brilliant) idea

Dating in San Francisco can be pretty shitty. If you’re in the game, chances are you’ve spent a depressing amount of hours on apps swiping left and right; and if not, you may have found the attempts to meet someone super casually IRL at a coffee shop or bar to be a letdown.

It’s not you, friend. It’s the system. Plus, even if you do make it out on a date, they’re all usually the same: an awkward conversation over drinks or a meal you don’t know if you should pay for.

No more! Thanks to us, you now have another, clearly much better option: apply to be linked up with someone through a local publication’s dating column that thousands of people will read. Obvious choice!

How this will work

We’ll be seeking applications from people who want to participate, asking a series of questions to get to know you. We’ll then use our impressive analytical and in-depth journalistic research skills to connect people whom we think could be excellent matches. Or just entertaining to watch interact. We’ll see.

Once we receive the applications, we’ll select our couples and set them up on dates. But these won’t be ordinary dates. They will get a couple out of their comfort zones. Plus, you won’t have to pay.

No fantasy suites are planned at this time, but you never know what could happen.

Want to apply?

If you’re sick of the regular dating hoo-ha, why not give The Sync Up a shot? Who knows—you could meet your soul mate.

To apply, fill out this questionnaire. We’ll be evaluating applications and contacting our choices soon after.

Make sure to share this with your single friends, and get ready to give a toast at their wedding with a shout-out to TBI!
