I might be the punniest person I know. Wordplay is my foreplay. If I ever date another writer we’ll just have make sure our “safe word” is super clever (but that’s pun of your business).
For real though, if there is a pun in your company name, you’ve not only won my business, you’ve won my respect. Full disclosure: I sometimes think of clever names for businesses that I do not, and never will, own. (I’m write brained and don’t do numbers, so it’s my Sudoku.) To wit: I helped a friend make spring rolls once, and have no recollection of how to do it, but I do know what I’d name a Vietnamese restaurant: “Mother Pho-ckers.” My tea/coffee shop would be called “Brewhaha,” and yes, there would be an open mic for comedians.
As my spirit is less entrepreneurial and more free, I lack the know-how to make these businesses a reality. (Which reminds me, Re-ali-tea would be a good name for a tea shop.) Yet there are some savvy business owners whose puns are out loud and proud. Whether you hate, love, or love to hate puns, you can’t deny that these local San Francisco businesses are winning when it comes to the name game. Fogtown residents, please let me know if I mist any of your favorites.
