Third Gray Whale Found Dead in SF Bay
For the last couple of months, gray whales have been making their annual migration trip from Mexico to Alaska. If you’ve been by the coast on a lucky day, you may have seen these majestic creatures exhaling air from their blowholes from a distance. However, there’s a disconcerting trend happening this season: a few have been found dead for a variety of reasons. Most recently, the Press Democrat reported that a third gray whale has been found dead in the San Francisco Bay since March. The gray whale died of “blunt-force trauma” from a ship. The first reported gray-whale death was from malnutrition. The second was reportedly from an orca attack. Fortunately, this type of gray whale is not on an endangered-species list at the moment. It was removed from the US Endangered Species List in 1994, but still, the deaths are saddening.
Someone Stole a San Franciscan’s Pug. Then They Reunited.
Yes, you read that correctly—dog-napping is a real thing here in San Francisco. According to ABC, Stephanie Lee’s pug, Phyllo, was stolen when she went grocery shopping at Whole Foods in April (the audacity!). Fortunately, this tragic story has a happy ending. Since this dog-napping case was on the news when it happened, a woman recognized the stolen dog and contacted Lee. Lee discovered that her beloved Phyllo had been sold and was living in Oakland. He’s reportedly doing just fine. #Blessed
Former SF Sheriff Is a “No Show” in Dog-Court Hearing
Yes, more dog news, but this one is too good to leave out. San Francisco’s former sheriff, Ross Mirkarimi, reportedly skipped an accountability hearing regarding an incident in which his dog attacked another dog (a Chihuahua), according to CBS. “I don’t know why he’s not here today. That really bothers me, because my son and husband took off work today,” the dog’s owner said.
