Where to See Giant Gingerbread Houses In SF — The Bold Italic — San Francisco

Ok people, it’s officially the holidays. That means it’s time to crank up the festivities. Three San Francisco hotels are doing their part to add to the magic by housing giant gingerbread and sugar buildings in their lobbies. Consider this your guide to San Francisco’s edible architecture.

1. Two-story Gingerbread House at the Fairmont

This gingerbread house is 22 feet high and 23 feet wide and was constructed using over a ton of royal icing and candy pieces.

2. Sugar Castle at the Westin St. Francis Hotel at Union Square

Come see what Executive Pastry Chef Jean-Francois Houdré and his team of eight started in June. This year’s castle is 12 feet high and was constructed using more than 1200 pounds of sugar and flour. The castle is on display now through January 3.

3. The Palace Hotel Gingerbread House

Check out the Palace’s 400 pound gingerbread chateau. The sugary structure is 8 feet by 16 feet and also includes a chocolate pond. The multi-room house is on display now through December 30 and is part of a campaign to raise funds for the San Francisco Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children program.
