FRIDAY FIVE

Father’s Day 2021 is around the corner, just in time for the re-opening of many Bay Area classes and events.
For those of you looking for an activity to share with your LGBTQI+ parent this Father’s Day, here are 5 ideas that might make your queer parent’s day special.
Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit
Treat your parent to 300,000 cubic feet of Vincent van Gogh’s oeuvre at the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit.
Described by patrons as a “unique way to experience art,” the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit has made its way to San Francisco after being on display in Paris and Toronto.
Notable works that are part of the exhibit include Mangeurs de pommes de terre (The Potato Eaters, 1885), the Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889), Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888), and La Chambre à coucher (The Bedroom, 1889).
// The Immersive Van Gogh experience is on display at SVN San Francisco (formerly known as The Fillmore West) through September 6th, 2021. Tickets can be purchased here.
Sunset Cruise on the Bay

Whether you’re a San Francisco resident or visiting for the weekend, it’s always a treat to tour the Bay by boat. For those with a parent visiting the city for Father’s Day, a sunset cruise might be the perfect way to show them around. For those with parents living in San Francisco, a boat tour is a wonderful reminder of how beautiful their city is.
This 90-minute sunset cruise, which departs from Pier 39 at 7 P.M., sails by Alcatraz Island, Sausalito, and the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s common to see wildlife while onboard, including sea lions and dolphins.

Wine Tours

Treat your parent to a full or half-day wine tour from San Francisco to either Sonoma, Napa, or a combo tour that includes both.
For those looking to go on a wine tour, but don’t want to take on the challenge of planning one, attending a pre-planned tour might be the way to go. A vehicle will pick your group up at 8 A.M. in San Francisco, and arrange all vineyard reservations, the timing between vineyards, and travel back to the city.
If you want to include friends or family members under 21 in your Father’s Day plans, never fear, children and young adults under 21 are more than welcome on wine tours.

Take a Cooking Class Together

Regardless of whether your parent’s a master chef or simply looking to pick up some additional knife skills, taking a cooking class for Father’s Day is the perfect way to show your appreciation.
In the Bay Area, there’s a variety of cooking class options, from virtual to beginner to advanced. Additionally, there is plenty of specialty cooking and baking classes, including bread baking, pickling, or private classes that allow for you to get the one-on-one time you’ve been waiting for.

Go to an SF Giant’s Game

Are you a Giant’s Fan? Is it scandalous to suggest otherwise? Whatever your leanings when it comes to baseball, the Giant’s versus Philly’s at Oracle Park at 1:05 P.M. on Father’s Day is a great way to get outside and spend some time with your parent.
Seating is divided into vaccinated and socially distanced sections, selected upon the purchase of your ticket.
And hey, maybe you’ll even catch a fly ball.
