If you’re a fan of all things Oh Sees, check this out: frontman John Dwyer, long a dabbler in the visual arts, has released his first photo book, Vinegar Mirror, with Vacation. I put in an order first thing this morning: after the book got some Pitchfork love, I imagine it’s gonna sell out quickly. And Dwyer’s an awesome photographer — I was coveting a giant Holga print of a swimming pool he had hanging at a Mission art show a couple years ago. The new 225-page book comes in hardcover limited edition format (only 500 copies) and then there’s the extra special limited edition of 80 signed copies. Deets here.
You might remember Vacation as that killer vintage shop/underground show space that mixes sweet fashion with musician-generated art. Owner Kristin Klein (whose background is in tour managing for The Black Lips and Deerhunter) is constantly devising great ways to showcase musicians’ creative output. And of course she’s had some kick-ass shows in her space. Keep an eye on Vacation’s Facebook page to stay up on everything Kristin has going on. I asked about future music books coming out of Vacation, and she tells me that she “can’t really give details yet, but the idea is musician as visual artist series.” Can’t wait!
More Dwyer photos from Vinegar Mirror below (the first photo is Kristin, the second Sic Alps’ Mike Donovan).
