Wow. What a weekend. After Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were pronounced the winners of the election over Donald Trump on Saturday morning, the Bay Area exploded — along with cities across the country — with celebrations in the streets. We’ve seen our fair share of taking to the streets over the past four years — but for once, they were filled with hope rather than anger.
In San Francisco, the Castro came alive with impromptu dance parties, shouts of glee, and the sound of horns honking spontaneously.

The same took place across the Bay in Oakland, where Vice President-elect Kamala Harris was born. Hometown pride was at an all-time high as people took in the herstory of electing the first woman, first Black person, and first person of Indian descent to the VP slot.
